Per Phoenix Rising brochure, “In 1984, the first Women in the Woods retreat was sponsored by Phoenix Rising and held at the Breitenbush Hot Springs and now is one of the most popular community events of the year.
A Men-in-the-Woods retreat was held in the Fall of 1986; and a Men-by-the-Sea in the Spring of 1986.
Retreats provide gay men and women with unique opportunity to interact in a secure and friendly environment not easily found in the heterosexual society. Retreat participants develop much of the weekend activities such as curriculum, workshops, and social events.
